What Would Teddy Do?

This is a direct quote from President Theodore Roosevelt, 100 years ago…

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

So simple, yet so true…, I wish we had another great Teddy to see us through…

  1. So true! And what people fail to realize is that the orignal constitution stated that to become a US citizen, you had to renounce the citizenship of your home country. Nowadays, it’s dual citizenship, and illegal immigration and you can come and go as you please. There is no great sense that ‘I want to be an American, and I will do anything to become one.’ I doubt if we are still living in the melting pot- people are coming in, but the flame blew out.

  2. Exactly! The government actually believes that 12-20 million illegals are going to take the time to assimilate to our way of life. The truth is, we as Americans have to bend over backwards to accomdate to the criminal’s cultural! We just might hurt their feelings and we don’t want to do that now do we… Instead let’s slap the face of our fellow Americans, because we can control them. This is basically what our government’s mentality is. I am fed up with our government, our lack of enforcement, our cowardness to demand real immigration changes that 80% of Americans know is needed, their complete disregard to maintain our American cultural…
Whooo, I could go on but I’ll save it for another post… Thanks for the input.
