NAACP Calls Katrina A “Lynching”

Bond said the possibility that New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward, ravaged by Hurricane  will never be rebuilt is comparable to a “lynching.”

“It can be said that Katrina, like lynching, not only destroyed the work of generations in a single day, but is resulting in a deliberate effort to dispossess black landholders.”

The mostly black 9th Ward was one of the city’s most heavily damaged areas. Bond said that nearly 60 percent of its residents owned their homes compared to 47 percent of all of New Orleans.

“Katrina served to underscore how the war in Iraq has weakened, rather than strengthened, our defenses, including our levees,” Bond said. “The problem isn’t that we can’t prosecute a war in the Persian Gulf and protect our citizens on the Gulf Coast at home. The problem is that we cannot do either one.”

First of all Mr. Bond the definitions of “lynching” are; To execute without due process of law, especially to hang, as by a mob, An unlawful premeditated killing of a human being by a human being.  Mr. Bond, out of all the people who should be educated on the definition of the word “lynching”, I thought it would be you, the chairman of the NAACP.  But instead, you use this word loosely, to stir up emotions and resentment toward our government.

Since you opened your mouth and you believe that President Bush orchestrated a natural disaster and lynched the Lower 9th Ward, let me ask you this…

Would you say that 130 blacks murdered last year in New Orleans is a lynching?  No, you wouldn’t because it was black on black crimes and it can’t be lynching unless the white man is responsible. However, the definition says nothing about race!

Would you say that Mayor Ray Nagen, who was in charge of the first response to the hurricane, is responsible for lynching his community?  No you wouldn’t because he’s black.  Would you say that since Mayor Ray Nagen disregarded hundreds of buses that could have saved the lives of many residents, but instead sent them to the Super Dome would be considered a lynching?  No you wouldn’t because Nagen is the leader of his so-called “chocolate city” and that would go against your own!

You are a clueless leader, and you need to be re-educated on your choice of words.  It’s so easy to blame the white man, when the truth is before Hurrican Katrina, your organization has done little to help the Lower 9th Ward.

Oh, and by the way, do not comment on the Iraq War, because you have no idea about anything that has to do with war, the military, or our veterans…  You are clueless and you will never understand!  So keep your mouth shut, because you can’t even help control the crime in New Orleans, but you think you can spew about the war?  Don’t even think about it!!!

  1. I am a white conservative native New Orleanian and I know nothing of lynchings but I do know our government deserted the entire Gulf South.

  2. When you say our government, do you mean local, state, federal or all three? This reason I ask is that if you look at Mississippi and Alabama, there local and state government did a remarkable job in the evacuation and rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina. But if you look at Louisiana, specifically New Orleans, there evacuations and rebuilding procedures were and still are terrible. Did the federal government make alot of mistakes, absolutely, but the local and state officials are really the ones who failed New Orleanians. Mayor Nagen and Governor Blanco are truly at fault for the suffering…
