It Is The Soldier Who…

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

(Charles M. Province)

So if you are one of those type of people who bitch and moan about wars and are always invested in defeat, be sure to thank the men and women of our military for your freedom to undermine their efforts!

  1. amen to that

  2. My Calculas teacher read that to us today and the majority of the class teared up. You should post the whole poem.

  3. Please tell your teacher thank you for sharing this poem to his class. Nowadays it’s not very often where you will find teachers who have the courage to show their appreciation for our military. It means a lot to me to know, that at least there is one patriotic teacher out there spreading good will for our troops…

    Thanks again,
    Bo
